DALHOUSIE,
m (From a Correspondent.) T rjKd in your paper two weeks ago of a cajfnaye weighing sixteen pounds. I wMKit Ihe Messrs. Taylor's farm last woof:, and pointed out to Mr. D. Taylor 'wo cab'wgi-s, and asked him to weigh ihfnn — one weighed twenty-eight pounds •mrl ihe other nineteen. The majority of his carrots are eightesn inches Jons?, and live and six inches in diameter at the top. T hive pc 'n him dig potatoes 23 and 30 to ihj) root, not one of them below half ii p mnd. It is tho first yrar of his trees bearing apples, and I have one of them in my possession five inches in diameter. I have no doubt the land here, when cultivated by a good practic.il agriculturist, is second to none in the province. Tt would be a treat to anyone coming to the Mouth to pay a visit to Messrs. Taylor's farm.
The diggings in this quarter are quite at a stand for want of water. No sluicing claim within six. miles has been at work for the last four months. There was a good deal of talk some time ago about bringing water on the spin's, but as an old friend of mine used to say, we heard the bees, but we don't see the honey. lam afraid we poor diggers will have to go begging a crust if we place nur dependence on the Government supplying us with water. Are there no enterprising men afc Lawrence who would liyont a little of their spai'e cash and biing us down a supply of tho needful ? they will ultimately derive the benefit.
Messrs. M'lntyro and Reese have let their water right from the Crook Burn for twelve months to an enterprising company, who are to put up new fluming, and put the race in good water carrying order, so we may expect in a week or two to have a couple of heads on the claims. Mr. Geoi'ge White and party are putting a now fluming across Brown's creek, and making everything right for the fir3t shower.
The only piece of machinery at the Mouth that make it look lively is Mr. Morrison's saw mill, Notwithstanding that the water has to be bucketed to the engine, they ara throwing off their 20,000* feet a week.
