The following is the result of the polling for the Tuapeka election, which took place on Tuesday :—: —

During the whole qf the day the town assumed quite a holiday appearance ; every imaginable kind of vehicle was seen iiying t.,bout iv all directions in quest of voterd — cabs, cars, drays, traps, aud hearses being amoug the number. One noticeable feature in the day's proceedings w.is one of our worthy citizens driving tandem iv a hearse, which was frequently loaded to the muzj-lo with free and independent elector*. Of course tho usual electioneering jokes were exchanged, but everything seemed to pass off to the entire satisfaction of everybody but the defeated candidates. Mr. Herbert announced by handbills in the early part of the day that he had retired from the contest.

DUNEDIX.

The polling for the Dunedin election took place on Monday evening. The following are the seven successful candidates :—: —
