WASTE LAND BOARD.

A meeting of the Waste Land Board took place on Wednesday, the 22nd February. The Chief Commissioner, Mr. J. T. Thomson, occupied the chair. The other members present were Messrs Hughes and Duncan.

The following applications to purchase, agricultural leases were granted —

J. P., G. 11. D. and W. G. Maitland, section 49, block 111., and section 5, block XX., Tuapeka East.

Henry Cable, section 16, block XIV., Tuapeka Eusfc.

Jacob Shackleton, section 2, block 1., Waipori. He also made application to purchase section 24, block V., Waipori, and section 17, block XtV., Tuapeka East, but these two applications were refused.

Mr. James Paterson applied for lease of part of block XXIV., and of railway reserve, Clyde, for brickmaking purposes. A lease at the rate of £5 per annum wase granted for seven years conditionally on the ground being used for the purpose specified in the lease.

Allan M 'Donald applied to have the pastoral lease of country discovered by him granted to him, without being first put up by auction. It was resolved that the whole country of Otago having been applied for and x'efused many years ago, the Board cannot lease pastoral land otherwise than by first submitting it to public competition.

The factor to the Presbyterian Church made application for the purchase of sections 1 and 2, block 11., Tapanui, as a .church site. The application was granted, subject to payment being made within a month.

Mr. Edward Burrows applied for a lease of a piece of land on M'Kinlay's run, Lake Wakatip, for lime burning. An annual license, renewable for a term of seven years, was granted, at the rate of £5 per annum.

Mr. Bs.il, oa behalf of the Waipori Reef Company, applied for protection for a lignite bed discovered at Waipori. Protection for three months, in order to allow of prospecting being made, was granted. Mr. William Raven applied to purchase three of the unnumbered sections behind 8 and 9, block 111., township of Tapamit, at the upset price. Ifc was declined.

. The applications of the Rev. R. Coffsy, for sections 1, 15, 16, and 17, block 111., Queenstown, for Church of England purposes, was granted, subject to payment being in tide within a month. Objection* was made by 34 settlers to Mr. D. F. Mam's application for 640 acres pre-emptive right. The matter was referred to the Warden.

An application . was made by Mr. George Heath, for the HaVeloek Athenaeum Committee, for a grant of sectioas spfieiiied W him for building and endowment purposes. It was resolved tkat the stations bo reserved.
