The Tuapeka Times. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 1871. " Measures, not Men."
Our dream of smiling homesteads on the Beaumont Road is not yet to be realised. It is only a few weeks since we were extolling the bold stroke of the Provincial Executive, in throwing open 17,360 acres of the Bellamy run, for lease or sale. No sooner is the land thrown open, and several applications made for portions of it, than an injunction it. laid by the Bank of New Zealand and Mr. Maclean against the Provincial Executive and Waste Land Board for the step they have taken in having it proclaimed open for settlement. "Upon what grounds the injunction rests, we have no conception, as the clause of the Act under which the lease was cancelled is so plain that he who runs may read. We may inform those who have applied for land on the run, and all intending settlers, that the}' will have very little chance of making a home on the Bellamy run for six months at least, if then.
