BLUE SPUR SCHOOL EXAMINATION.
TV ovaininniiou of the above school took ]>lice in the school-room on Friday lust, in the presence of a large number of visitors and parents of the children, all of whom appeared to take great interest in the progress of the school. The following mentioned gentlemen assisted the teacher (Mr. M'Lelland) in the examination, viz :—: — Messrs Margett's, Manuel, Carey, and Varcoe. There wore 55 children present. The prize list was fixed according to the number of marks for efficiency and goodconduct awarded during the year. The highest in the list was Isa Cousins, who had got 5960 marks ; the 2nd was Hetty Clarke; who had 5052 ; and 3rd, Bridget Roughan, who had 4090. No boy appears on the list till we descend to John Speirs, who got 2540, between which number and 2000, a good many hover. The lowest on the list stood at 275 marks.
The following is the list of the special prizes awarded, the donors being the School Committee, and Messrs Jeffery, Pollock, liarrop, Mills, Dick, and Co., R. R. Clarke, M'Beath, and " Bruce Herald." LIST OF PRIZFS. Attendance. — Ist prize, V. Morris ; 2nd, D. Evans. Arithmetic. — First Class . Ist prize, James M'Hattie; 2nd, John Spiers. Second Class : Ist prize, Dan Evans ; 2nd, ]». Roughan. Third Class : Ist prize, Janet Cuutts ; 2nd, E. Margetts. Bible History.- Ist prize, Isa Cousins ; 2nd, Hetty Clarke.
Composition. — Ist prize, Hetty Clarke ; 2nd, and letters, Catherine Speirs.
Dictation. — Ist prize, James M'Hattie ; 2nd, Tsa Cousins.
Exercises on copy. — Ist prize, James M'llattie ; 2nd, Hetty Clarke. Grammar. — Ist prize, Isa Cousins. Geography. — Ist prize, Hetty Clarke ; 2nd, Isa Cousins.
Good conduct. — Ist prize, Ellen Clarke ; 2nd, V. Morris. Sewing. — Ist prize, Isa Cousins. Singing. — Ist prize, Hetty Clarke ; 2nd, E. Clarke ; 3rd, V. Morris ; 4fch, Edith Trever. Writing. — Ist prize, Hetty Clarke ; 2nd, James M'Hattie ; 3rd, Isa Cousins ; 4tli, E. Eustace. After the prizes wore delivered, the Chairman of the Kchool Committee addressed the children in a few appropriate remarks ; other gentlemen present also addressed a few words of encouragement to the children and teacher, congratulating the latter on the general progress made by the scholars during the year.
A vote of thanks was then accorded by acclamation to those gentlemen who had kindly given prizes. A round of buns and milk was then sei'ved to the children who appeared fully to enjoy that part of tho programme.
