MATRIMONY.
(To Hie Editor of the Tuapeka Times.)
Sir, — Having seen an advertisement in your paper from two gentlemen at Alexandra, applying for what I presume they mean as wives, and being myself disengaged, and in all humility I may say that while I address myself to you, as the party to be referred to, and in doing so may say that I do it with perfect confidence, that no hoax is intended, or I don't bc4ieve you would insert such an advertisement in your paper. I may also say that being a personal acquaintance of Mr. F , I would have applied to him in my own proper person, but this would have left mo open (in case of a hoax) to a certain amount of ridicule, which, you know, would be very wounding to the feelings of a female, especially to one situated as I am, without a male relation to defend me. With these preli- I urinary remarks, I have to inform the gentleman advertising (I mean the one who accepts me, as I cannot take them both) that my age is 25 1 years ; my qualifications as a wife to such a party j as you advertise are these : — I can milk a cow, or a dozen of them ; feed pigs ; ! plant or dij; potatoes , fence ; work a sewing or reaping machine ; turn a mangle; wash dishes ; make a pudding; get up shirts ; play the piauo or harp ; J teach the rudiments of French, Latin, Greek, German, and Sanscrit ; take my whisky hot at proper intervals ; and wield a three-legged stool when provoked to do so. Should these qualifications meet the views of eithe v of your advertisers, I would be happy to exchange cartes de visite with either of them, and as Mr. Burton is in the district now, it would be a favourable opportunity to do so. — I am, yours ever faithfully, Flora M'Donald, P. 0., Lawrence.
