SHOW OF ENTIRE HORSES IN LAWRENCE.

Following the good example set by Tokomairiro and other parts, Mr. Hay, auctioneer and salesman, advertised a walking show of entire horses that were intended to travel the district. On Saturday, as the advertised hour drew near, a large crowd of spectators gathered in Peel-street to witness the show. There were seven horses exhibited, three thoroughbred and four draught. After walking up and down the street for a short time, Mr. Hay stated that it was not his intention tojpass any opinion of his own upon the horses, but as they passed before him one by one, he would read their pedigree, and what was known about them. He would intimate where they were to travel, and then leave the settlers and others to decide as to which horse they would select for their mares. He would, however, strongly advise people to look well to the mares they put to horses, as upon that greatly depended the stock they might expect to raise. Mr. Hay then z'ead the pedigrees, of which we give a summary :—: —

THOROUGHBRED.

The thoroughbred Quicksand, the property of Mr. Thomas Parsons, was the first to pass before Mr Hay. Quicksand is a chestnut roan, rising four years old, is 15 hands 3 inches high. As a yearling this horse was sold for one hundred guineas. His sire, Quicksilver, was imported to Canterbury in 1864, and has been awarded first prize every year against all comers wherever shown. Quicksand will travel this season in the Waitahuna, Tuapeka, Tuapeka Mouth, Blue Spur, and Wetherstones districts. Terms, £3. Since the death of Merrylegs, Quicksand is the only one of the Norfolk trotting family in Otago.

Marksman, the property of Mr. Mark Dale, was the next in order. Marksman is a beautiful young chesnut by the celebrated horse Morris

Dancer. His dam was by Hambleton, imported from England. Marksman will stand this season at Waitahuna. Terms 2j £&--' '" ' Abdallah, the property of Mr. Richard Lancaster, then advanced, and Mr. Hay read his pedigree. He is out of an imported thoroughbred mare, and is seven years old. He has left some of the most promising stock in the Clutha district. His sire, Abdalla'n's, pedigree can be traced for three generations to a royal mare. Young Abdallah will travel this season in the Beaumont, Teviot, and Tapanui districts. Terms, £3.

DRAUGHT.

Young Reformer, the property of Mr. George Grant, was the first of the draught entires that passed before Mr. Hay. Young Eeformer is a beautiful bay horse, 164 hands high, of immense bone and fine Rymmetry. He was got by the far-famed horse Reformer, imported by J. Stenhouse, Es<j., and sold to C. Rossiter, Esq.,

Cranbourne, for the sum of £875. Young Reformer took the Ist, 2nd, and 3rd prizes as a colt in Victoria, and was afterwards imported to New Zealand. His dam, Jessie, got by Renfrew, was out of Mr. Dougal's imported mare Nancy, who took many Ist and 2nd prizes both as a filly and a mare, thus showing that Young Reformer inherits some of the best blood in the Southern Hemisphere. Young Reformer will travel this season in the Waitahuna, Tuapeka, and Tuapeka Mouth districts. Terms, £4

Young Wallace, the property of Mr. David Evans, was next in order. He is a bright bay horse, rising five years old, stands 16| hands high, has superior bone, good action, and a kind temper. Young Wallace is by Sir William Wallace, imported from Scotland by Mr. R. Miller, and out of a pure Clydesdale mare of Mr. E. Sutherland's. Young Wallace will travel this season in the Tuapeka district, between Evans Flat, Clarks Flat, and Beaumont. Terms, £3.

Heather Jock, the property of Mr. W. Draper, was then brought up to the stand. He is a fine dark bay horse, 17 hands high, and of immense bone. He was got by the far-famed horse Reformer, and is out of the celebrated mare Flora. Heather Jock has taken Ist and 2nd prizes as a colt, 1, 2, and 3 years old. His sire, Reformer, gained the Highland Society's first prize at Perth in 1852. Heather Jock will travel this season in the Moa Flat and Mount Benger districts. Terms, £4.

Clydesdale, the property of Mr. James Paton, was the next and last brought to the stand. He is a beautiful dapple bay with black points, rising six years old, and stands 16 1 hands high. His sire was the wellknown horse Napoleon, imported from Scotland by John Nimmo, Esq., of West Taieri, and gained many first prizes in Scotland, Otago, and Canterbury. His dam, Hose, was out of an imported mare by the far-famed horse Blackleg. Clydesdale will travel the Waitahuna, Tuapeka, and Beaumont districts. Terms, £3. This concluded the show, which, for the first in Tuapeka, was very creditable, and apparently gave great satisfaction to the spectators.
