OWR LOCAL POUND.
(To the Editor of the Tuapeka Times.) Sin, — So we have got a pound at last, which will be quite a boon to cowkeepers, as it is altogether preposterous that people keeping hoi'ses should allow them to have anything to eat, oats and chaff excepted. Surely there is little enough grass about for the large number of cows around this township, which ought to be protected, for do they not supply us with milk at 4d. per quart, which is a great benefit to our families. I am glad to see that horses found straying will not only have to be impounded and pound fees paid, but also their owners will be summoned to Court and have to pay a fine which, with loss of time and the charge of 6s. 6d. for costs, will make it an expensive luxury for presuming to let their horses wander through our grass grown bye streets and unfenced property, to the serious detriment of those who have a better right to it. Hoping you will insert this as a caution to those who have no desire to be eased of their cash by fines or otherwise. — I am, &c, COWKEEPEE.
