TUAPEKA HOSPITAL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Hospital Committee was held in the Commercial Assembly Room, on Tuesday evening. Present : Horace Bastings, Esq., President, in the chair ; and the following members of Committee : — Messrs. Abel, Simpson, M'Nickle, M'Swiney, Keen, Harrop, Herbert, Dr. Halley, and the Resident Surgeon. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A letter from Mr. Keen, intimating that he had sold his drug business to Mr. Jeffery, was read ; after which it was moved and carried, that Mr. Keen be allowed to transfer his contract for drugs to the end of the year to Mr. Jeffery. The Resident Surgeon's report for July and August was laid on the table. In glancing over it wo observed that during the two months there were twenty patients admitted, six of whom were paying, and fourteen non-paying patients. Mr. Simpson read the Visiting Committee's report, from which we noted the following : — Nothing particular had occurred during the month requiring comment. The contracts had been all properly carried out, and the only complaint made was one with regard to the firewood supplied by Mr. Overend, which was said to be in an advanced state of decay. The Committee were highly satisfied with the bath-room. They were also grateful to the Lawrence Corporation for responding to their wishes in forming the footpath in Whitehaven-street, which would be a great acquisition to the hospital patients. The Committee had disposed of the pigs for the month for the sum of £10 10s. The report was adopted. Mr. liarrop was appointed a member of the Visiting Committee in place of Mr. Simpson, retired. The Chairman intimated that as the Waitahuna Christy Minstrels were to give an entertainment on behalf of the hospital on Friday, 9th September, he hoped some members of Committee would make it a point to be present.
