CORRESPONDENCE.
A letter from Dr. H alley referring to the decision of the Council to gravel the footpath up as far as his house, was received. The Mayor stated that, like other resolutions, that one could not be carried out for want of funds. Cr. Mears moved that the Town Clerk be instructed to write to the Government about the bad state of the road in Gabriels Gully beyond the bridge ; and also that part of the Beaumont road from the foot of Peel-street to Kilmarnockstreet. Seconded and carried. The meeting then adjourned.
Deacon Bang's Christianity. —"I sopse," says Sam Lawson, " that Deacon Bangs is a Christian, but, lordy massa, he's one o'yer dreffie ugly kind o, Christains, that when they gits up their backs will do worse thing than sinners will.
