TUAPEKA GOLDFIELDS HOSPITAL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Hospital was held in the Commercial Hotel on Tuesday evening.. Present— ll. Bastings, Esq., President, and the following members of Committee : — Messrs. A.bel, Keen, Simpson, Farrer, M'Nickle, M'Kinlay, Harrop, Dr. ITalley, and Mr. Hayes, Secretary. The Resident Surgeon was also present. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was read from Mr. W. J. Braithwaite, Secretary of the Switzer's Hospital Committee, which stated that as the Switzer's Hospital was now completed, the Committee would feel obliged for a copy of the Tuapeka Hospital Kules, and any information useful in the management of the hospital. Tho Secretary was instructed to furnish the rules and all information required, together with forms of admission, &c. surgeon's report. The Surgeon's usual report was laid on the table, from, which- it appeared that nine patients had been admitted into the Hospital during the month, seven -of wJioin. we.r© noa'payingj and two. paying.

VISITING COMMITTEE'S KJiPuiU 1 . The Visiting Committee's Report waa then read by Mr. Abel They reported having found everything progressing favourably. The alterations on Surgeon's residence had been completed, and the Horticultural Committee had already worked great improvements on the grounds. They expressed themselves warmly upon the disgraceful condition of the approaches to the Hospital gates, and recommended the Committee to instruct the Secretary to communicate with the Town Council on the matter. Considerable discussion arose out of the latter part of the Visiting Committee's Report, with reference to a certain right of way to the Hospital. . Mr. Simpson volunteered to have the whole matter investigated, and have a tracing made of the ground in question, and report upon it ac next meeting. The matter was, howevor, ultnnatelyleft in the hands of the Visiting Committee, who were to report upon it at next meeting. The Report was then adopted. MOTION. Mr. Simpson then moved the resolution of which he had previously given notice, viz., "That after the expiration of the quarter upon which they were about to enter, tenders for ihe Hospital supplies be called every six months instoad r.f every quarter." He remarked that prices were now about as low as could be expected, and the market* fluctuated so very little that he beli ;ved it would be to the advantage of the Hospital if tenders were called for six instead of three months. Mr. Farrer seconded. The motion, on being put, was carried without objection. APOLOGY. The President stated that he had received an apology from Mr. James Smith for hi 3 non-attendance that evening. ACCOUNTS. An account of 15s from George Humphery, for repairing the Hospital clock, with a memo, authorising Mr. George Clark to receive the amount, was referred to the Finance Committee. TENDERS. The tenders for the quarter's supplies were then opened. Milk. — P. Hobeitson, 9d per quart ; D. M'Alpine, 7d per quart. Lowest accepted. Coals aiid "Wood. — Overend — Lignite, £1 per ton ; firewood, £2 4s per cord. Accepted — only tender. Bread.— G. Clark, 8d per 41b loaf. Accepted — only tender. Interment of Dead. — Geo. Morison, £2 5s ; J. Tattersal, £1 15s. Lowest accepted. Meat. — M'Kimmie, mutton, l^d per lb ; beef, 3d, as may be ordered. Smith — Mutton, JUd per lb ; chine of beef, 2?d ; prime ribs, 2f d ; sirloin, 3d, &c. Lowest accepted. Groceries, &c— W. M'Nickle — Brandy, per gallon, 22s 9d ; Geneva, per case, 53s 6d ; porter, per doz., 13s 9d ; tea, per half chest, 109s ; sugar, per cwt., 51s ; candles, per lb., Is lid ; oatmeal, per lb, 5d ; kerosene, per gallon, 33 lid ; butter, Is lid. J. Herbert & Co. — Brandy, per gallon, 21s ; Geneva, 54s ; porter, 14s ;. xea, per lb, 2s sd ; sugar, 523 ; candles, Is Old ; kerosene, 4s 6d ; butter, Is 2d. The tender of Mr. M'Nickle being considered the lowest was accepted. Mr. Simpson enquired if there was any way of enforcing the fulfillment of these accepted tenders, as their was a complaint last quarter: The question elicited the reply that the Visiting Committee had full power to act in such cases. Mr. Farrer took the place, on the Visiting Committee, of Mr. Abel, who ritircs by rotation. This finished the business of the meeting.
