MINING LEASE APPLICATION. 9th June, 1870. To the Warden at Lawrence. SIR, — We herewith deposit the sum of Twenty Pounds, as required by the Mining Leases Regulations of Otago, and we agree, if our application (the particulars of which are hereunder set forth) be investigated, that such sum shall in all respects be held subject to the terms of such regulations, and. that upon the approval of this application, we will execute a lease upon the basis therein stated, if the Governor shall think fit to grant the same, — We have the honour to be, sir, your obedient servants, (Signed) SAMUEL HALES, For self and Partner. Extent of land applied for. — Three acres, or thereabout. Minimum number of men to be employed by the Lessees. — Six men permanently. Amount of capital proposed to be invested. — Upwards of £2000 has already been invested. Proposed mode of working the land.— sluicing. Precise locality. — At Blue Spur, Gabriels, being ground at present held by applicants under lease dated 6th November, 1865, and under miners' right. Term for which lease required.— Fifteen years, to date from expiry of existing lease bills from 6th November, 1870. Time of commencing operations. — Immediately — already at work under existing lease. General remarks. — This lease is desired in order that applicants' title to the ground may not expire — a five j^ears' lease having been granted to them four and a half years ago, while their neighbours are in possession of 15 years' leases. The above application, and any objections thereto, will be heard before me, at Lawrence, on Wednesday, 29th June, 1870. Any person desiring to object to the issue of a mining lease, must, within two clear days from the date of such hearing, enter his objections at my office, at Lawrence. (Signed) W. Minimum number of men to be employed by the lessee. — Six are working in claim, and will always be kept working in it. Amount of capital proposed to be invested. —£3000. Proposed mode of working the land. — Blasting cement down with powder, and then sluicing it.

Precise locality. — Blue Spur, Gabriels, being the ground at present held by i applicants under Mining Lease dated 6th November, 1865, together with a portion of ground abutting on said lease, and held by the Company under Miners' Rights, ! containg 2 roods, more or less. Term for which lease required. — For fifteen years, to date from the expiry of leasa already alluded to, viz., 6th November, 1870, at the annual rent of £2 16s. per acre. Time of commencing operations. — Immediately — indeed the applicants are at present at work on the ground. General remarks. — The lease is desired in order that applicant's title to the ground may not expire ; a five year's lease having been granted to the, persons he represents four and a half years ago. The above application, and any objection thereto, will be heard before me, at Lawrence, on the 6th day of July, 1870. Any person desiring to object to the issue of a Mining Lease upon the above application, must, within two clear days from the date of such application, enter his objeotion at my office, at Lawrence, W, LAWRENCE SIMPSON, Warden.

Notice that I have this JL day applied to the Warden for a lease of land for agricultural purposes, situate at and being section 37, block VI. , Tuapeka West, comprising 60 acres, or thereabout ; and that the said application will be heard at the Warden's Office, Lawrence, on Thursday, 30th June, 1870, Persons objecting to the granting of such lease must lodge the same with the Warden within twenty-four hours of the day of hearing.
