(From our own Correspondent.) Dunedin, Wednesday, 5 p.m. Mr. Thompson's vote, of want of coniidence in the Government, lapsed. Mr. M'Dermid's land resolution, the principal one of which was that the Council recommend a Bill to be introduced, granting a certain acreage, at 2s. 6d. per acre for eight years, the rent to constitute the purchase money, were postponed till "Friday. The Council will probably be prorogued in a week. The Attorney-General denies the report of Judge Ward's appointment as Distract Judge of Hokitika. Mr. SmytluVs ap* plication to recommence practise as barrister, refused.
