CATTLE V. PIGS.
(To the Editor of the Tiiapeka Times.) Sir, — I have no doubt you will remember the struggle between the sh^ep and cattle owners in this locality — th<j question as to whether sheep or cattle were to eat the grass — when tho cattleowners came off victorious so far, by having the sheep removed from a portion of the GokUields. Iv my opinion the cattleowners have now more necessity to ask the Government to remove the pi^s, or to cause their destruction by tender. There are now as many pigs from Ross's Gully to Mr. Smith's boundary as there were when tho diggings broke out ; and lam very much surprised that onr Board of Wardens or Mi*. John Mackay, the Tnspector, allow *,he pasturage of the caltle to be rooted out and destroyed as it now is, more especially when it is paid for by the cattleowners, and the owners of pigs pay nothing. Let the Wardens or Inspector travel over this ground and see the amount of damage done, and I am confident they will see the justice of my complaint. Should they have any difficulty in finding out the locality, let them start about the Black Pinch, pointing their face westward, and they will soon Snd the animals in hundreds. — 1 am, &c., CaTTLEOWNER.
