How Scandalmongers were Punished. Last Century. — The law of libel which frequently allows litigious persons to proceed against innocent repeaters of a bona fide statement is ineffectual in preventing the tittle-tattle scandalmongers, who hint away many a fair fame in perfect sectirity. Some 90 years ago it appears that the Church took cognisance of such proceedings, for we read in, the " London Chronicle " of 1790 that " on Sunday morning last a lady was publicly excommunicated at St. Ann's Church, Solio, for defaming the character of another lady, an acquaintance. She was put into the spiritual Court some time since, but refused to make any concession though repeatedly applied to by the friends of the other lady. The conse- ' quence of excommunication is, she can never enjoy any legacy, inherit an estate, or receive benefit by law, except in criminal cases." Holloioay's Ointment and Pills — The worst descriptions of ulcers, the. most revolting sores, and the intensest external inflammations yield before this cooling Ointment, when its effects is. augmented by the internal administratration of Holloway's Pills. In " bad legs," this Ointment has only to be applied for a few days.befbre its beneficial influence is seen over those indolent ulcerations which no previous treatment could ease, much less cure. Under its application, the pains decrease, the almost bursting skin relaxes, and healthy granulations spring up to displace the old matter, which was horrifying to behold. Holloway's. Ointment purifies the- blood in; the. neighbouring vessels, from, which fir its and good flesh can.alone be formed.,
