BILLIARDS IN ENGLAND.

Cook v. Boweli. fob £100. — The Becond half of the match between these players came off at Gresham Billiard Eooms, St. Marv's-gate, Manchester, on Monday evening, before a respectable though not numerous company. Neither players made much progress during the first hour, Boweli keeping a head, and at the interval the score stood — Boweli 1569, Cook 1539. Shortly after resuming, Cook made a break of 216, including 72 spots, followed shortly afterwards with 55, including 16 spots. Minor breaks on both sides followed, and from 1959 Cook finished the game. Score — Cook 2001, Boweli 1813. Boweli played well, his chief break being a well-played 57.

Cook, Jun., t. Eobeets, Jun. — These celebrated players met on Tues-

day night, at the Greshatn Tavern, St. Marys-gate, Manchester, to play 1000 up, even, on the table by Messrs. Bailie and Swallow. Eoberts went away rapidly, and ran up a score of 181 to Cook's 27. Then the latter improved his position, and shortly afterwards the game was called — Eoberts 364, Cook 259. The latter now got well in, and increased his score by a fine break of 214, all around including only eight spots At the interval the figures stood — Cook 604, Eoberts 517. On resuming play, Cook made breaks of 140 (including 39 spots) and 84 (including 27 spots) ; Eoberts best breaks being 51 and 48. From 940 Cook finished the game, the full score being— Cook 1000, Eoberts 673.

Cook, Jun., v. Green. — On Wednesday night, W. Cook, jun., of London, and W. Green, of Liverpool, played 1000 up, Green receiving 300 points, at the Clock Billiard Eooms, Market-ctreet, Manchester. Cook began with breaks of 41, 62 (14 spots), 38, 63, 49, 105 (13 spots), and Green having contributed 45, 25, 23, 44, and 46, the score at the interval stood — Cook 500, Green 633. Shortly after resuming play, Cook made a break of 153, including 29 spots, followed with 52, 39, and 41, and finished the game, the score being — Cook 1000, Green 885. Green played well throughout, but made no breaks worth recording after the interval, his best being 33. — " Sportsman."
