(To the Editor of the Tuapeka Times.)
Sir, — A letter signed by Mr. John Copland appeared in your las* week's^ issue. Some of the statements contained therein are so much at variance with the truth, that I cannot refrain- from contradicting them.
When our worthy Magistrate spoke to, Mr. Mouat and Mr. Keen, he appeared? to wish tcx prevent any disagreement between them and Mr. Copland, and said that as Mr. Copland was now a solicitor, he might perhaps object if Messrs. Mouat and Keen were both employed in a case." and he was not. He (Mr. Simpson mentioned the mattei", and suggested that some arrangement might be made. Such, as near as 1 can recollect, was the tenor of Mr. Simpson's remarks, wliich will beseen to be very different from Mr. Copland's version of the same. I think, Sir,, that Mr. Copland will find that a more, truthful and magnanimous course would; have been a more profitable one, as the» public well know how to value meanness*, wherever it is found. — I am, &c, VINDEX.
