NORTHERN TELEGRAMS.
(From the " Daily Times.") Wellington, March 7th. Fifty well equipped Constabulary left for Napier to-day in the St, Kilda. A settler named William Tucker has been killed at the Hutt by a fall from his horse. Nelson, March. 7th. The Phoebe has arrived here from the Manukau. The Government intend to offer the natives the, sum of £5000 for the capture of Te- Kootij on the principle of no capture,, no pay. An enquiry has boen ordered into the doings of Colonels M'Donnell and Fraser, with respect to, v the recent escape of Te, Kooti, The Governor and Mr. Fox left for the Waikato on Thursday, At the great native me.eting to be held at Raglan shortly, 2000 natives are expected to attend. The King is reported to be on Ms way thither. The reports regarding the destitution prevalent at the Thames are said to be greatly exaggerated* The settlers offer wages at the rate of ss. per day, but cannot get men on those terms. The returns ! from the various reefs, also, are good. ! The field is overpopulafced, however, on account of the number of persons waiting for the opening of the Ohinemuri country. The schooner Crest of the Wave is reported as having- arrived at the Fijis. At the Wangapeka goldfields in this province, Mr- Kynnersley, the Warden, has granted Culliford a prospecting claim of about two acres in extent. Some splendid gold has been brought into Nelson from this claim.
