ENLARGEMENT OF THE TRLEGRAPH OFFICE.

(To the Editor of the Tuapeka Times.) Sir — I quite indorse the remarks contained in a local of your issue of the 19th ult., with respect to the enlargement of our Telegraph Office ; also, with the efficiency of our Postmaster, Mr. Buck ; at the same time I should like to know why the person who is doing it, namely, Mr. Mears, has got the preference to the many builders in this place. lam as old a resident of this place as he is, and have been as long in business, and believe myself to be quite as competent. Besides, I pay as much to the revenue as he does. Those, I consider, entitle me to the same privilege in the carrying out of all Government work. I therefore would like to know how it is that tenders were not advertised for, or, at the least, prices asked from others equally qualified in Lawrence. This, Sir, is nothing more than a specimen of the tiddley-winking which, has been carried on in Lawrence for some time, and I hope for the future, when work is to be done at the Post Office or Telegraph Office, that the public will have a chance of the same. When ! furniture is wanted, of course the man wanting and paying for it can get it where he likes ; but in the paying out of public money I want my fair chance. — I am, &c. Builder.
