BLUE SPUR MINING NOTES.

(From our Mining Correspondent). Saxby's predictions pasaed over us without serious calamity. ITad his professorship predicted polar snows, 1 which we experienced last week instead of an upheaval of water or a tidal wave, we should not have been ! disappointed. However, the only incouvenience experienced in consequence was a little extra clothing, and a few stimu'ants 'as a preventive against the piercing winds which we fancied we heard. The fierce winds climb, and fall, and roar rock-thwarted under bellowing caves alongside our windy claims ; but now the sun is again shining on us as beautifully as ever, as though nothing had happened. Tha water- races are refreshed with those welcome streams, the miner cheerful, and mining operations very satisfactory. The Waipori Water Company have been running 1000 inches of water daily for the last fortnight as far as Hales & Co.'s dam. This is owing, in a great measure to the company being able to reserve all surplus water in it's new dam, which is under contract by Mr. Brunton. Morrison and Co. are running as much water as they can pack in the race with safety. Livingston and Co. fired a blast, the charge of powder consisted of two and a-half tons, and was a great success. The Perseverance Company fired a blast with 12 cwt. of powder, which answered very well. This company are extending their tail-race in boxes at a very rapid pace, but I am informed this is only temporary, as it is their intention to erect these boxes on stageing at a higher level as soon aa it is convenient for them to do so. The Great Extended Company fired a small blast, sluiced it away, and are tunneling for another blast. The tributers of the Blue Spur Sluicing Company fired a blast, the powder acting on a semi-annular sand back, extending to the surface approaching the boundary. The tunnel that they are now driving for another blast should take them into excellent ground. This party should work hard before their term expires, as they may not have the same chance again at the present figure. All tlie other claims are sluicing away their former blasts. It has been announced that a public meeting is to be held on Friday evening next, to consider the advisability of erecting a new Wcsleyan Chapel here. The object is highly deserving, as they have a minister in this circut worthy of better treatment than being forced to preach in a dog's kennel. There is no fanaticism about him, he is a real John Bull with fire in his eye, and no sneaking round the corners to get at the point he aims at. It is to be hoped our hero-worshipers, to quote Carlyle, will show their liberality in the right direction this J time, and head the list with something handsome. The Wesleyans in the mother country always had a taste in their designs for places of worship, but if I am wrong in my estimation, I hope they will pardon this remark that they should have made an effort before this. However, I believe they have the right man in the right place, and I hope he will succeed in his efforts.
