THE LAWRENCE CEMETERY.

(To the Editor of the Tuapclca Times.)

Sir, — Since the publication of •my letter which appeared in your issue of the 11th instant, certain remarks have been made tending to show that some of the Trustees wish to consider ilmnsdv&s personally insulted by what I then wrote. If gentlemen will insist upon putting false constructions unon what ia said or written, I cannot help it ; neither can X avoid wrong meanings being given to words. When I called the Trustees " dogs in the manger," I did so allegorically only, and not by any means with, the intetition of insulting them. _ It was their position that I referred to, not their persons — (I wonder whether they will understand this). Then, when I quoted certain words at the conclusion of my. letter, I thought that every sclxeolboy would know from whom I qtioted, and I thought that every person would xecog-, nize in Cromwell's celebrated words in his famous -and abrupt dissolution of the Long Parliament, simply . and only «i\ illustration of the kind of unceremonious' dismissal which the Trustees of the Lawrence Cemetery have so well deservedJ and will probably ere long' receive. — lain, &c, „ , ; 4 . T . .- .. ( , o Jbiry L. ShADWJSDT., lyEEtf. Lawrence, 23rd September, 186#'
