SPIRITUALISM.

(To the Editor of the Tuapeka Times.)

Sik, — I observe a lengthy correspondence on this important question in the " Daily Times," and feeling that my experiences bear materially on the points at issue, I hope you will insert this letter. I have, from my earliest years, been an anxious seeker after truth, of which a friend of mine once truly remarked, that if ifc do lie at the bottom of any well, does so in an Artesian. I regret to say that T was at first inclined to treat the claims of the Spiritualists with contempt. But mark what followed :— One evening after dinner, I distinctly felt the whole house revolve, and with my own eyes saw the easy-chair waltz with the 3ofa, while the poker and tongs supplied the most entrancing music. This was ocular demonstration, and I at once became a convert, and if any one wishes further proof, I shall be delighted to show him the identical articles of furniture, and that should, in my opinion, convince tha most unbelieving. There is one annoying circumstance connected with our intercourse with the spirit world, and that is the number of lying spirits who endeavour to render all our efforts ridiculous, whose grand ambition seems to be to prevent fur cher inquiry. Thus, at a seance I attended where the system pursued was to think of a defunct personage, who immediately answered questions through the medium ; the ghost of Homer informed us that that great poet wa«j a native of Dublin, and had made money in trade. Grsorge IV. thought with pleasure on the religious works he had pubiishbd during his life time, and so on in other cases. Now these instances were by some, supposed to destroy the claims of spiritualism to rank as a science ; but what I have said about lying spirits, proves how ungrounded is this argument. As an instance of the close resemblance between the state of society in the spiritual and material worlds, I may state, that most of these deceiving spirits appear to be females. — I am, &c, A Rapparee.
