PRICE OF MEAT.
(To the Editor of the Tuapeka Times) Sir, — Allow me through the medium of your paper to call the attention of stock owners and butchers to the fact that if any of them are anxious to do business, now is their time. Smith, -the only run holder near thi3, has raised hi 3 price for single sheep to 16s. — for what reason I don't know, and aa these said sheep are,, generally apeaking, small, this rise in price makes mutton dear. It seems to me very absurd that sheep can be driven to Dunedin and sold there, killed and dressed from Is. to 2s. 6d., while here the run holder has the the cheek to ask 16s. Any butcher taking a trip down this way once a week or fortnight, could, I am sure, dispose of a goodly number of sheep at a reasonable rate, which would suit more purposes than one. He would realise a handsome profit, and we would get cheaper mutton. — I am &c., Sheep Skin. Tuapeka Mouth, June- 27th, 1869. .
