BLUE SPUR.
BNTKITAINMBin! ON BEHAMP 01 THB TUAPEKA HOSPITAL.
The first entertainment on behalf of the Tuapeka Hospital which has ever taken place at the Blue Spur,' came off in the Schoolroom, on Thursday evening, and far surpassed any previous entertainment held there, both as regards the talent exhibited and the attendance present. The Schoolroom was literally crammed, and the door and windows were quite besieged. Those gentlemen who were late in their attendance, and who had to take part in the'prdgramme, had to get in by a side window to perform their duty. The programme was a long one, as will be seen from the following list. Mr. John Cormack occupied the chair. Mr. M'Lelland gave a short address on the benefit derived from such an institution as the Hospital, and the duty of one and all to gnpport it. Mr. A. Cormack sang " The bonnie hills o' Scotland." Mr. James Barclay, recitation, " Man was made to mourn;" Mrs. H. Mills, song, "The cottage on the cliff;" Mr. Sutherland, Wetherstones, comic song, " O, Kafooealem ; " encore, gave " Pulling hard against the stream ; " Miss Jessie Pope, recitation, " Bernard de Carpio ; " Mr. John King, song, . " The fisherman's daughter;" encore, gave "The White Squall ;" Misa Ellen Clarke, song, "Busy bees;" Mr. Donovan, song, "Irish Gentleman ; " Miss Scott, Wetherstones, reading, " Young Emmett ; " the Amalgamated Glee Club, "Thy bright smile haunts me still ; " Mr. Ford, Wetherstones, song, " The harp that once through Tara's hall ;" Mr. Ferguson, recitation, "The Packman;" Mr. Bastings, song, "I've lost, I've lost my child ; " and in reply to an encore gave " Tell's speech ; " Dr. Stewart, song, "Lassie, will you ioe me ; " Mr. Drury, Wetherstones, scene from "Macbeth;" Mr. T. " Work, boya, work ; " Mr. T. F. Morris, recitation, "We sailed from the Downs ; " Mr. J. Davidson, Lawrence, song, "Paddy's breeches j" encore, gave "A drop, but nothing more;" Miss Scott, recitation, "'The tear;" Mr. Ford, Wetherstones, song, " Molly Asthore." This concluded the programme ; and where everyone excelled, it would be invidious to single out one performer before another ; let the praise, therefore,-' be equally distributed, and let us hope that those who can so well amuse and instruct their fellows, will be ever ready to give their assistance for any similar benevolent object. A vote of thanks to the Chairman and strangers having been duly passed, the entertainment was brought to a close by the audience singing the National Anthem. The proceeds, we are informed, will fHRVmit to about £20,
