PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.
(Condensed from the " Daily Times.") "Wednesday, May 26th. bridge over the molyneux.
Mr. BROWN moved, " That an address be presented to His Honour the Superintendent, requesting that he will be pleased to cause a sum not exceeding £1000 to be placed on the Estimates for the purpose of the erection of a bridge, suitable for horse and passenger traffic, over the Molyneux River at the township of Roxburgh In doing so, he pointed out the importance of the motion, and said that if the Government would undertake to consider the matter during the recess, with a view to placing a sufficient sum on the Estimates, he would allow the matter to stand over.
Mr. REID acknowledged the importance of the work. He did not think it advisable to erect a foot bridge at the place indicated ; but thought that when a bridge was erected it ought to be a bridge which would carry drays as well. It was impossible to go on with the matter this session. If members insisted on loading the Estimates with large sums of money, it would be necessary to add a clause to the Appropriation Act, empowering them to raise the necessary money by loan. Mr. SHEPHERD thought the bridge could not be erected for less than £3000.
Mr. HAT was of opinion that a large bridge wa3 unnecessary, and that a suitable one could be constructed for £1000. The motion was put and negatived. STEAM BEBYICE,
Mr. HENDERSON moved, "That an address be presented to Hi 3 .Honour| the Superintendent, requesting that he will be pleased to cause the sum of £600 to be placed on the supplementary Estimates, in addition to ,the sum already voted under the heading Steam Service Dunedin to Clufcha Ferry, Pomahaka, Cabin's River, and Waikava."
