CORRESPONDENCE.

HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.

(To tlie Editor of the Tuapeka Times.)

Sib, — In your report of the Hospital Committeo meeting of Tuesday, 30th ult., I am Bet forth to have moved an amendment upon Mr. Mears' motion in reference to the Eesident Sergeon, viz., " That the Doctor be allowed to go when he pleased." Now, Mr. Editor, I am at all times pleased to see^true and faithful records of any meeting with which I may be connected, more especially those of the Tuapeka Hospital, inasmuch as it has always been my study to further the interests of that most valuable institution j and I may further state that when I do make a motion or amendment I fearlessly adhere to it, and I think it for the good endeavour to carry it. I did remark at the meeting that the Doctor (like every other free man) could go when he pleased, and where he pleased, not as an amendment to any motion, but simply to show the egregious and most absurd error that when accepting his services they did not provide for the dispensing of same. I admit that I did move an amendment as to the alteration of the places for the meetings of Committee, for these reasons : that the addittons to the Surgeon's residence and the purchasing of furniture for same was made with the view of it being " the only proper place where such meetings should be held, and where they could at all times supervise the general conduct and management of the institution ; " and next, that I am no great advocate for holding meetings in a public house.

Apologising for trespassing (as I am afraid) too much upon your valuable space, — I am, &c,

James Smitit. AVetherstones, April 7, 18G9.
