BISHOP JENNER.

(To tlie Editor of the Tuapeka Times.) Sin, — I have been deeply grieved by the unchristian rancour displayed by your two correspondents " Not at all Cross" and "Anglican." They might surely make some allowance for dissimilarity of .opinion, and treat one another courteously, and rely rather on argument than abuse. I had not intended to write on this subject at all ; for time which has whitened my locks, haa also cooled the controversial ardour that" once burned brightly enough. I much fear I shall displease both sides, for both are, I believe, wrong — fighting more like partizans than devout Christians interested in the welfare of dear mother church. Cannot Bishop Jenner, if he objects to treat of doctrine at public meetings, be induced to answer categorically some pimple questions, in writing, such as '' Bo you believe in tho doctrine of transubstantiation ? " &c. ; and cannot his opponents find some better grounds for their accusation of heresy than the newspaper reports of his attendance at some questionable religious performan- I ces ? If this plain course were adopted we would see the rights and wrongs of the caso, and by the help of the Most High be directed to a just conclusion. Ab it is, many who, iiko me, lament the dissensions of the Church, and pray that brotherly love may continue, are wracked with anxiety and doubt ; for it is a terrible thing to deny a pastor who comes asking us to receive him in the name of the Lord. I pray that good feeling and good sense will recover their supremacy when the wild heat of controversy has subsided ; and that, whatever the issue may be, God will in his own good time direct it for ! the glory of the Redeemer's "Kingdom, and the advancement of our branch of His Church. — I am, &c, A Chuech Member of Forty Tears' Standing. Dunedin, March ], 18GS.
