PUBLIC MEETING
At a public meeting held in the Commercial hotel.Hotel Assembly Room last evening, the following resolutions were unanimously adopted. Proposed by Mr. Keen, and seconded by Mr Searle " That the threatened alteration in the time of closing the mails at the post office, Lawrence, from 8 p.m. to 530 p.m., is certain to cause serious inconvenience to tha business community and the general public, and is a direct breach of faith with the holders of private boxes." The second resolution was proposed by Mr. Mears, and seconded by Mr. Henry " That the closing of the Monday mails at 6 30 p.m. on Saturday, instead of on Sunday at 10 30 a.m., will seriously inconvenience the whole community, and practically prevent direct communication with Dunedin until the following Wednesday." The third resolution was proposed, by Mr. Ferguson, and seconded by Mr. Donovan, " That the above resolutions be for warded to Mr. Barr Chief Postmaster, and also to the Postmaster General for the Colony, urging that as the present hours have been followed for the last fdur years, and found to meet the the of the district, that tley be adhered to." Fourth resolution, proposed by Mr. Morrison, seconded by Mr. Searle—-" That- the .following gentlemen : "Messrs. Hay, Keen, Mears, Bastings, Donovan, and Ferguson, be appointed a committee, with power to add to tßeir number, for the purpofe of enquiring what hours would be* most convenieVt for the public generally." A vote of thanks to Mr. Hay for presiding closed the procesdingß.
