(From out own Corresporiient ) A special meeting of the Library Committee was called on Thursday, v the 21c*. inst., for the purpose of selecting about L2O worth of books from the Government catalogue forwarded by the Secretary to the Education Board, Mr. John, Hislop. There were present — Messrs.' M. D. Morrison, "Wj Ledingham, J. King, A. 6. Thomson, and the Secretary, Mr. M'Lelland. The Committee made a very careful and wise selection of standard works, and I am satisfied that they merit the thanks of the community, and have no doitbt that the list of readers will be very much extended in consequence of the Library receiving such an addition of books. A congregational meeting in connection with the Presbyterian Church was held in the School on Monday evening, the 25th inst., for the purpose of electing a Committee of Management for the current year. The Rev, Dr. Copland was in the chair. Sheath was charged with having allowed three head of large cattle to trespass withiu the boundary of the Municipality. The trespass was not denied. Fined 2s. 6d. per headj and costs, t ■<>■• Same v. Brunton. — For allowing three head of large cattle to trespass. Fined 2s. 6d. each, iuid costs of Court. Saihe.v. Pearson. — This witness was evidently ignorant as regards the rules of Court. However, the Bench managed with some difficulty to find out that he desired proof that the cattle were his property. This not being satisfactory, the oelse wal adjourned -for oneweik to enable the Inspector to bring forth main evidence if he could.
