WAIPORI

(From our Own Correspondent). \ A public meeting was held in the I school house on Monday 11th uwt. for \ bhe purpose of electing a School . V Committee for the ensuing % year. I Mr. Cairnes, Secretary to the retiring Committee, gave his report for the year, which showed the school to he in a very prosperous condition, thirtyfour scholars being at present on the roll. This gives an increase. of eleven since 1867. The Treasurer's report showed a balance of money to be handed to the new Committee which, considering the school to be a young one, and the improvements made upon it during the last year, is highly creditable. It was then proposed by Mr. Dunne, and seconded by Mr. Gormley, " That a public vote of thanka be given to the retiring Committee for their services during the past year." Carried Mr. Buchanan, as Chairman of the outgoing Committee thanked the meeting on their behalf in a very appropriate manner. Proposed by Mr. Buchanan and seconded by Mr. Dunne " That the Committee consist of nine members." Carried. The following gentlemen were then proposed as members of Committee for the ensuing year. Messrs. G-ormley, Buchanan, Cairnes, Lewis, Farrattt, Eitchie, Pillings, Eogers, W. Cox, M'Lauchlan,.. Page, Dunne, Wilson, Wiley, M'Le-, downey, Keating, Shackleton, Philips, Drummond, Dowley, Quilter, and. Brougham. Ballot was then taken when the following gentlemen were . duly elected : — Messrs. G-ormley. Buchanan, Cairnes, Lewis, Farrant, Eitchie, Eogers, Page, and Dunne* the meeting closed with the usual vote thanks to the chair. An inquest was held on Monday,. 11th instant, in the Waipori Hotel, on the body of a child, named Margaret Evan. It appeared, from the evidence that the child had been looking over a small rail fence along a race, and had fallen over. Verdict, " Accidenally drowned'"
