TUAPEKA LAND LEAGUE.
On Friday evening, the 11th inst., a meeting of the Land League Committee was held in the Commercial Hotel. Present: H. Bastings, Esq., President; Messrs. Vernou, Tuapeka Mouth, Evans, Evans' Flat, Fraser, Waitahuna, Keen, Lawrence, and Ferguson, Secretary. The minutes of tho previous meeting were read, and confirmed! COB.BESPOKDENCE. A letter from Tapanui, submitting to the Tuapeka Land League two resolutions passed at a public meeting held at Tapanui on the 17th Novem.ber, was read and received. The reI solutions referred to- set forth the "pressing necessity which existed at Tapanui for at least 30,000 acros of land in the neighbourhood being declared into Hundreds, and that the Tuapeka Land League be consulted as to the moßt effectualjjteps required to be taken to accomplish the object in view. After the letter was carefully considered, the following resolution l^cas moved by Mr. Vernon, and secoWed by .M r - Evans : — " That a pub^meelbmg^f?9^^P Dera ?f tae -TOapeka Land I ii ii tte second week of January next^Sfl^^*^ a deputation from Tapanui be recoral mendedto attend, and lay their case before it, when the matter shall be fully diacussqd, - and steps taken- towards obtaining the desired object of the Tapanui meeting." The above [resolution was passed, owing to a betief that it, would be better not to
forward the memorial to the Government till after Christmas, as the holidays might interfere with the proper carrying out of "the necessary arrangements.
The following resolution was then unanimously adopted :—": — " That the leading men of the various outlying districts be coimnuriicated with, and invited to attend a public meeting in Lawrence on the 11th January, that they might have an opportunity of submitting to the Land League the grievances under which' they labour, and suggesting what they consider the proper remedies required." It appeared from the discussion which preceded, the adoptiou of the above resolution,* tßat the desire of the Committee was to get all the outlying districts to unite with the Land League in the common object they- had in view, and thereby to strengthen their handg, and make their case not only affect the Tuapeka district, but the Province '• at large. The wish* of the Committee was to embody- in .the memorial a general summary of existing grievances, not only in the Land Xaws of the Province, but in. their administration. It was also agreed that the memorial be left opeu till the 11th January, when a deputation should be appointed to present 1 the same to v the Executive. This closed the business.
