RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

(Before W. L. Simpson, Esq., R.M.) Tuesday, December 1. John Barnett was charged by Constable Dunne with being drunk and disorderly at Waipori. Fined 305., or forty-eight hours' imprisonment for being drunk, and having been before the Bench formerly, he got one month in jail for being disorderly. PUBLICANS' MCKN'SES. Waipori. — The following were granted licenses : — J. Jonson, Ford and Phillips, P. M'Ledowney, Robert Cotton, John Wylie, James S. Vial, Thomas Dickson. Wetheustones. — James T. Henry; John Cranley, Philip Rheuby, John Shumate. — Granted. D. M'Luskey, Bryant M'Swiney (bottle licenses). — JSTo appearance. Waitahijna. — John Tanton, William Walker, James Chalmers, George Coomb (Woolshed). — Granted. R. Coghill's and H. Frazer's applications were objected to. — Frazer's application to stand over until the premises are reported upon ; Coghill's granted. Lawrence. — Edward Walsh, Horace Bastings, George Clarke, John Airey, John Donovan, W. Griffin (adjourned for one week), Joel Boulton (adjourned for two weeks), James Docherty, David Evans. An individual well known in Lawrence, having strong proclivities to Bacchus, opposed the application of Mr. Bastings on the gronnd that, being a brewer in Wetherstones, he could not attend properly to his customers. The Bench remarked that the Magistrate was the proper party to judge of that, and that he didn't seem to be very able to take care of himself. Bottle Licenses. — F. Oudaille, W. Ledingham, Robert Grieve, and James Hopkins applied for bottle licenses, which were granted. The Bench instructed the police to report separately upon these applications. Beaumont. — Hugh Stewart, Samuel Cowap, Daniel Hunter. Stewart's and 'Hunter's applications were granted; the consideration of Cowap's application was adjourned, he not having the required accommodation.
