TAPANUI.
(From a Correspondent.) On Wednesday evening, M. Hay, Esq., M.P.C., for this district,' addressed a large number of hia constituents in the schoolhouse. Mr. G-eo. S. Neish, schoolmaster, having been called to the chair, stated that the meeting had been convened for the purpose of affording Mr. Hay an opportunity of explaining the policy pursued by him during last session of the Provincial Council, and in a few well chosen and appropriate remarks referred to several matters more immediately affecting the neighbourhoodMr. Hay, who on rising was received with cheers, expressed the gratification he experienced at being called upon to give an account of hia stewardship, inasmuch as it indicated their taking an interest in matters political. In a long speech he then reviewed the most important measures discussed during last session of the Council, dwelling at considerable length on those introduced or supported by himself, after which he intimated his willingness to answer any question that might be put to him, an offer which was taken full advantage of. Mr. Strean then proposed, and Mr. Quin seconded, "That this meeting has every confidence in Mr. Hay, aa syur member of the Provincial CounciK^ This was put by the Chairman, and carried unanimously. A vote of thanks to Mr. Neish for occupying the chair, terminated the proceedings.
