MR. SHEPHEED AT QUEENSTOWN.
(BY ELECTBIC TELEGBAPH.)
Queensiown, Thursday, Oct. Ist.
On Monday evening Mr. Shepherd addressed the electors at Queenstown. The Mayor acted as chairman, and there was a large and respectable assemblage. Mr. Shepherd was received with great enthusiasm, and repeatedly applauded during the course of a long and able address, When he was still speaking a practical joker drove a donkey into the hall, but as the police promptly arrested both the human and fourfooted asses, there was scarcely any confusion caused by the malicious trick. He -was tried to-day before the Resident Magistrate. The only excuse he offered was that if asses were excluded, public meetings would be but thinly attended. The .Magistrate fined him £2, and severely reprimanded him for deliberately insulting the Mayor and townspeople by his conduct.
