PRESENT ASPECT OF LAWRENCE.

(To the Editor of the Tvapeka Times.) Sib, — Having visited your town lost week, I felt very gratified to see so many substantial improvements made in the place since I first visited Gabriels, in the latter part of '61. As I bad a little spare time, I took a quiet stroll through the town. I first visited your Hobpital, and found it to be a very commodious" and comfortable building, and, to all Appearances, well conducted. After leaving the Hospital, I turned to the left, towards what I . was informed was Coalpit Flat; sod it is well named so, as the pit of lignite has been extensively worked, and showß the advantage taken of it by the inhabitant* of Lswrence. I then turned my Bteps im the Cemetery, and I waa extremely sorry to see that such bad taato had been displayed in tho choice of a burial place. The plot of ground is nothing but on* steep sidling with a golly running through it; and I would give a hint to those who have the management of it, that the graves would have a better appearance if the ground were marked off in sections, and the graves pnt in ! rotation, instead of being jumbled together without any apparent design. A cemetery, in my opinion, should be tastefully kept, and have more of a sacred look about it than the Lawrence one has. Leaving the Cemetery, I struck down the road into Lawrence, and I noticed several graves on » ridge, some fenced, and others unprotected. I think the Muni?, cipal Council would be performing a charit-, able work if they had the small plot of grounds fenced in, and I shall be pleased should I find, it so the next time I visit- Lawrence. In. glancing over your last paper, I noticed a writer remarks that you have got n«w blood in your Municipal Council, and be believe* it. ' is not inferior to any in jour town. Well, Bir,if H old Peter Piper" is right, you will see these much neglected improvements "v speedily made. I trust you will «com my Kbftrty in interferiug- with what does not oouoorn me.— l «n, **-, _ *■ iSnuHoaa.. _.
