MEETINGS OF WETHERSTONES SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The Wetherstones School Committee met j on Monday evening, the 6th inst:, in the •choolroom. There were present*: — Mess 3 M'Swiney (Chairman), Carr, Mooney, M'Clusj key, Ledgerwood, Abraham, Hart, Herd, and | Ogilvie (hon. Sec). The minutes of last meeting were read and ! confirmed. j A letter from Mr. T. Johnston, accepting bis appointment as teacher, was read. j Proposed by Mr. Herd, and seconded by Mr. Hart, "That Mr. Johnston's letter be accepted." Carried. Proposed by Mr. Carr, "and seconded by Mr. M'Cluskey, " That it is desirable to have an entertainment on Monday, the 13th inst., to inaugurate the opening of this school, and that a sub-committee consisting of Messrs. M'Cluskey, Herd, Abraham, Ogilvie, and the mover, be appointed to wait upon our local amateurs, and respectfully invite them to assist in the above •ntertainment." Carried. Proposed by Mr. Carr, and seconded by Mr. Ogilvie, "That the secretary be requested to write to the Lawrence Dramatio Club, and inform them that this Committee will be happy to receive their assistance, but coni siders that an interval of at least two months be allowed to elapse between the two entertainments." Carried. Proposed by Mr* Ogilvie, and seconded by Mr. Herd, •* That the first of the Sixpenny Readings be given on Wednesday evening, the 6lh of May, at half-past seven o'clock ; that an advertisement be inserted in each of the local newspapers on Saturday, the 25th inst., to that effect, and to request those who are willing to give readings, recitations, songs, &c, to communicate with the Secretary or other member of Committee, and that a subcommittee, consisting of Messrs. Carr, M'Cluskey, Herd, and tha mover, be appointed izz connection tvitH tdie said readings." Carried. The meeting then adjourned. The Committee again met on Tuesday evening, the 7th inst. Present: — Messrs. M'Swiney (Chairman), Mooney, Hart, Herd, Carr, M'Cluskey, Ledgerwood, Abraham, and Ogilvie (hon. Sec). , The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.
A progrnmmo of the ontertainment to take place on Monday, the 13th inst., was drawn up and adopted. An offer by "Mossra. Ferguson, Burn*, and Ludfunl, to print fifty bill* and 1000 curd* for £3 10s. was read. Proposed by Mr. ATCuAi'V. »*n<! seconded by Mr. Hart, " That the offer of Miners. Ferguson, .Burn*, uud Ludfurd, bs atcvptod." Cnrricd. Proposed by Mr. O.jilviv, and seconded by Mr. Moonoy, " That Mr. M'Cliukoy bo appointed Treasurer." Curried. Proposed by Mr. Mooney, uud secondod by Mr. Abraham, " Thut thu Treasurer bo iv« structod to make enquiries concerning thu insurance of tho school building for £100, and report to tho omniittee." Carried. The incetiug then terminated. Another meeting of the Committcß tiM hold on Thursday evening, the Dth mat. Present : — Messrs. M'Swiney (Chairman), M'Cluskcy (Treasurer), Carr, Mooney, Hod, Hart, Ledgerwood, and Ojjilvie (lion. See). I Tho minutes of last meeting wero road ai d confirmed. The Treasurer gavo a report of the result of his enquiries in rcforenco to tho insurance of the school building. Proposed by Mr. Herd, and seconded by Mr. Ogilvie, "That the Treasurer be iuatructcd to insure tho school building for £100." Carried. Proposed by Mr. Moonoy, and secondod b/ Mr. M'Cluskey, "That the teacher be roquestcd to see Mr. Mackney in reference to desks and forms, and that they ba made to tho teacher's approval." Carried. Proposed by Mr. Carr, and seconded by Mr. Mooney, "That the Secretary be instructed to write to Mr. Ilialop for maps for the school." Carried. Proposed by Mr. Ogilvie, and seconded by - Mr. Carr, " Tint the hearty thanks of this Committee be accorded to those ladies and gentlemen who have so readily and cordially offered to come forward to give an entertain- . ment for the benefit of the school, and also to those who, although they may not take direct parts iv the performances, are yet endeavoring to show their appreciation of the worthiness o/ the object for which the entertainment was undertaken, by the contributions which they are making towards its success." Carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr. Mooney, and seconded by Mr. Ogilvie, " That the sub-Committee appointed on Monday, the 6th inst , and consisting of Messrs* M'Cluskey, Herd, Abraham, Carr, and Ogilvie, see to the carrying out o£ the programme." CarriedProposed by Mr. Can-, and seconded by Mr. Herd, " That the scale of weekly school fees for the different classes be as follows : — sixpence, ninepence, one shilling, one shilling and threepence, and one shilliug and sixpence, and that payment of the same be made weekly in advance." Carried. Proposed by Mr. Hart, and seconded by Mr.. Mooney, " That the teacher be instructed to purchase a. book for fees." Carried. Proposed by Mr. Mooney, and seconded by Mr. Herd, " That tue Committee meet oa Tuesday next, tlue 14th inst. The meeting then closed.
