DUNEDIN.

BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH. (From our Owk Cobbespojtdbnt.) Dunedin, Friday, 5.20 p.m. A large and enthusiastic openair meeting is now held, expressive of sympathy and condolence with the Prince. His Honor the Superintendent is presiding over the meeting. Read letters which he had sent to the Prince and the Queen, expressing abhorrence of the act committed against the Prince, and expressing the hope, that should the Prince continue to recover, he would not give up the idea of visiting New Zealand. The Hon. J. Hyde Harris proposed the first resolution, "That this meeting express its abhorrence of the cowardly attempt to assassinate the Duke of Edinburgh, and pledge its loyalty to the Queen." ■ This resolution was seconded by ■ the Rev. Mr. Stuart, and carried by acclamation. The Rev. Father Williams, in an earnest and eloquent address, which was loudly applauded, proposed a ; vote of sympathy for the Prince, and hoped that he would speedly recover. Mr. Cargill seconded the resolution, which was also carried. Meeting still going on. i The shops are closed. Intense heat to-day, and change threatening.
