LAWRENCE ATHENÆUM BRASS BAND.
A meeting of members of the Band took place on the evening of Monday last. Present : -Messrs Francis (Conductor), Henderson, Monaghan, Speedy, Marryot, ( Ford, Fletcher, Harrop, Garrett, Roach, Tattarsal/ Jeffery, and Boulton (Secretary). The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Secretary of the Church of England Committee. Proposed and seconded, " That the Secretary be instructed to take a note of all instruments received, the total cost of same (being £47), and amount of donations received (£22 75.) being placed in the hands of the Treasurer."— Carried. Proposed and seconded, " That the conductor rent a writable room for practice." Mr. Harrop kindly offered the use of the " Recorder" office (on Behalf of Mr. Mackay) for a short time for practice. The Condnotor reported the instruments as being in fine tone ; but there was a deficiency of some gear, namely, desks for the E flat bass, also tenor horn, second cornet and picollo. Nine instruction books were received. The instruments were distributed as follows :—: — Conductor, Mr. Francis, Baritone. Mr. Marriott First Cornet . „ J. F. Speedy First Cornet „ Monaghan Second Cornet „ Henderson Second Cornet „ Roach First Clarionet Garrett Second do i „ Tattersal First Tenor horn „ Ford Second do „ Morrison E flat Bass '„ Boulton *■ Piccollo also instruction Books. Proposed and seconded, " That all members of the Band pay a fee of 2s 6d. per month, to defray the expenses of the Band." After the usual vote of thanks to the chair the meeting terminated.
