LAWRENCE TOWN COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Town Council took place on the evening of Wednesday last. Present : The Mayor ; Councillors Jeffery, Aimers, Donovan, and Robertson. The minutes of previous meeting were read. Moved and seconded, " That the mi•nutes be confirmed." Cr. Donovan entered a protest against the confirmation of the minutes, considering the same to be illegal. For the confirmation— Crs. Robertson, Jeffery, and Aimers. Against — Cr. Donovan. The minutes were confirmed. A letter from Mr. Duncan, Sec, of Lands and Works, was read, in reference to the completion of the road between Tuapeka and Tokomairiro. The following is a copy of the letter : — Dunedin, 10th March, 1868. SlB,— Referring to the conversation I had with you this morning on the subject of the unexpended balance of the vote for the road " ToKomairiro to Tuapeka," I have the honor to acquaint you that I have made enquiry, and find the plans, &c, to be in such a state of forwardness, as to warrant me in assuring you that the whole of the work will be under contract prior to the meeting of the Provincial Council on the Bth proximo. I hare the honor, &c, Geo. Duncan, Secretary for Land and Works. The Mayor, Lawrence. A letter from the secretary of the Queenstown Town Council was read, in reference to the Municipal Congress to be held in Dunedin early in April. — Received. Moved by Cr. Donovan, and seconded by Cr. Robertson, " That two delegates be appointed from this Council to cooperate with the other Councils at the Municipal Congress to be held in Dune-din."-Carried. Proposed by Cr. Aimers, and seconded by Cr. Jepfeby, " That the Mayor and Cr. Robertson be deputed to represent the Lawrence Council at the coming Conference." — Carried. A letter was read from the Phoenix Water Race Company, relative to supply of water for town of Lawrence. 'Received. Moved and seconded, " That the letter be referred to Water Supply Committee, with power to complete arrangements." — Carried. Accounts from the following persons were then read : — Geo. Bailey, advertising in the " Tuapeka Press," 83. ; Kenyon and Maddock, £1 ; W. Hayes, Town Clerk (quarter ending 31st March), £22 105. ; Thomas Anderson, foot-bridge, Gabriel's road, £1 10s.; Sergt. Sutton, Inspector of Nuisances, £4 11s. Bd.; Mr. Nicholson, plans and specifications for Kilmarnock-street , £2 Is. ; Wm. Tolcher, balance of Kilmarnock-street contract, £43 45.; H. Detort, Campble-ton-street culverts, £36. The above accounts were all referred to the Finance Committee. Plans and specifications of foot-path, from Jeffery's corner, Peel-street, along the Beaumont road to corner of Ardros-san-street. Moved ann seconded, " That the plans and specifications produced be adopted, and that tenders be called for this night fortnight. "—Carried. The Mayor's report on " Municipal Act, 1867," was then read, received, and adopted. The Council adjourned until Wednesday, 25th inst.
