before the Council. Cr. Jeffery statac tkat his object in bringing this subjec Jbefore them was simply the fact that the business of the cemetery trustees was quite Btopped frqm their inability to f orrr a quorum— -only three tnistees being able to attend. He would ljiove that those gantlemen named in the iiotice of motion be recommended to (is Honor the Superintendent as tretees for the Lawrence cemetery. Cr. Robertson, in leconding this motion, said that in reco mending to the Superintendent any gentlemen as trustees, he thought it woulfibe necessary to state the reason why a<|itional trustees were • required ; the relon was plain, Messrs. Grove, Mmiat, all Edward Herbert had left the distriemmd it now was impossible to form a quo&m. The Mayor thought! t invidious to have these trustees chola from amon,* the Council. I Cr. Donovan wished Is name erased, but on being desired tjullow it to remain as one of the tint, he consented to it. I Cr. Robertson bu Jsted Mr. John Herbert as one. | It was then unaninlisly agreed that Messrs. Bastings, Donlin, and Herbert be recommended to hiJonor the Superintendent as Trusteeslr the Lawrence Cemetry, to fill up tf places of those Trustees who have leffie district. The next business lnght before the Council was the appojment of au Inspector of Nuisances. I The Mayor stated It Mr. Inspector Morton had called upl him to say that Sergeant Sutton had I the district-., and he wished Constable lllon appointed in his place. 1 Or. Donovan prolsd " That the office of Inspector of I uisances be declared vacant, on acclt of that officer having left the districj Carried ujianimously. I Cr. Jbpfery then pd " That Constable Hanlon be apfited in Sergeant Sutton's stead." j Cr. Donovan had | impression that the business of Inspsr might be done for less money ; butjlearning that £25 was the usual amoij given by similar places, he expressedpelf satisfied. * Cr. Robertson tight it would be well to let Constabl^nlon understand exactly what his |ies were, that ho might know what wd be expected of him. I The next busine|rought forward by the Mayor was \rf reference to complaints that had befeveral times made to him by non-resits of the want of a foot-bridge over tftorm channel on the road leading to Qiel's, to enable the people to get to cjh. and the children to school. It wait strictly a municipal but a Gcveir»t mat'CL- ; but being such a small affaff thought the Council might take it pud. Cr. DoNOVANPght it was as much the duty of theprinnent to put up the bridge in gup as it was its duty to erect one acr<p Waipori river. After some fer remarks, it was agreed that thop c Works Committee : SsS«rb & w,u to write Mr. Hul in reference to the matter. / The Mayor! read his report upon the Gcx-ernmejfunieipality Bill, which is to be forwd to tho Provincial Treasurer :—: — | I have the itoJ report upon the Municipal Corporation X 1867, and after having gone through thple of the clauses, am of opinion that nofctage would accrue to this Municipality frJe adoption of any of tho clauses from 121 unless the Council are of opinion that itp bo advisable to suggest an ainalganiatitfi form the district into a borough, in my*on no possible good would arise to Lawreiy following sucli a course, the district beipcattcred, and the jiopulation spread ovch a largo area, and the aggregate amoa rateable property being so small. I In reference pt portion of the Provincial Treasurer's letrlativc to this Council, recommending apiona of the bill which we 1 may consider aple to be extended to Lawrence, I am of Jon that the thirteenth part should be extffito this and every other Municipality.
