The discovery of rock carvings on the Kaingaroa Plains has drawn attention to the -jvonderful rock carvings on the lace of a cliff at Kohi, near Waverley. They have been known for many years, but are as great a mystery as when first discovered. The carvings are unique for the reason that they are incised in the rock and for the unknown subject that thev svmbolise, although there is a theorv, which was gained from old Maoris in the district, that, it is representative of the coming of the Pipiwhararau. In spring in this locality a strange stone was discovered some time ago. and was identified as similar to a stone found and used on the Cook Islands.
