SLOWEST WORK AT AUCKLAND.
COMPANY DIRECTOR STATES LABOUR CONDITIONS THERE. I**y 1 elegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. A us. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received October 20, 9.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, October 20. Mr James Burns, head of Burns, Philp and Co. has returned from a visit to Europe and America. Comparing labour conditions, he said that in America the labour position was quite different from Australia. There the worker realised that it was his job that pairl wages, whereas in Australia the boss was considered to do that. One worked for the benefit of the job; the other used the job to pull the'boss or capitalist down, tin the chance of getting some of the spoil. He uttered a sweeping condemnation of strike affairs at the port of Auckland. He described it as the worst, so far as labour conditions were concerned. he has over seen, and added: “I have never seen slower work than I saw done there!”
