Johnny had oome home from sohool several times within a month with various bruises on his face and body reoeived in fights witb his sohoolmates, and on tbe lut oooasion his mother threatened him with severe punishment if he ever engaged in a fight again. Only a fow days after the email chap appeared with a black eye, and soared by the stern mate- nal g>eoting, "Well, eirP" he departed from his usual truthful wave and stammered, " I fell down and hit my head on a stone." " And whioh got the worst of it t " asked hie big brothor. "Ob, lhe other fellow," answered Johnny briskly. "He'a gone home wiih two blaok eyes,"
