Lees's letter of the 28th ,inst M _ I think it is only fair to the public,, in order to appease their apprehensions of an outbreak of typhoid fevei> to state, the following facts:-- < On the 26th ult,,. I- was re-, quested by the. Public Health Department to visit and officially report upon the case in question, and given a freehand to attend and treat the child.. In spite of Mr Lees's statement (which /I presume is correct) that a certain medical practitioner from Tauranga diagnosed pneumonia and typhoid fever, I diagnosed lobar pneumonia with enteritis of a non-infective nature. . I have since' daily visited the native lad and find there <is not a trace of typhoid fever.' and my. report,to the Health Department has, been based upon personal and professional knowledge, \ •; v '- •. Those Who know me intimately in the district acknowledge; that I am a very obliging personality (excuse the .egotism) }and should Mr-Lees return to the attach through your columns, I, shall be Plleased to oblige him by returning his "fire." as I have an abundance of powder and shot in my arsenal. -Yours truly,

It was decided on the motion of Mr Grant, seconded by Mr Lally, that the Marine Department be iwritfcen to on the subject of removal of dead animals from the foreshore, and asked what steps it intends taking as the. foreshore is still under its •.ontrol. \
A Wairoa, Staging Messrs Gamman's Limited, forward a plan of a piece of land they have leased frorn Mr li. P. Clarke on the Wair'oa River,' on whish they wish tq build a small staging to facilitate the unloading of their timber. The firm stated they trusted that the Board could see its way t<? recommend to tlie Marine Department that the work be done. Mr Stewart moved-That the application be supported by the Board. Seconded by Mr Grant 1 and carried. , ; ; .
