' A DIFFERENCE OP OPINION. I r At a meeting of the Harbor Board last week a telegram was read'from the Secretary of the Marine Department, as under: , " Borough Council states that it has not been able, to agree with your Board as to price to be paid for Town and Victoria Wharves, ' and ask« that the Governor may fix a price in accordance with section 7, Tauranga Harbor Act, 1912,; Does your Board concur in this respect ? ' On October 29 a reply was sent to the effect that the Board does concur'with the request of the Borough Council that the Governor should fix a price between the two' bodies in accordance with section 7 of the Tauranga v Harbor . Act, 1912. The text of .. the resolution passed by the ♦t Board at its meeting on October ; ? 8 bearing on the subject was also quoted. V . The Chairman, Mr Davidson, said he understood that Messrs ■ Sharp and" Tudehope would re--present the Borough Council at at the Commission. Several members considered , ' that counsel should be engaged. Mr Grant moved: That Mr Hodge, of Te Puke, be engaged to represent the Board. Mr Lally. seconded. Mr Gill moved an amendment: That the matter of engaging a solicitor be left to the committee. ' ' Mr-Lally suggested that two solicitors, might be appointed. Other members said the committee would require to confer with ■ ' with the solicitor. The amendment was carried. :a' Mr Stuart.proposed: That Mr < Grant's name fre added to the 'L Committee." Seconded by Colonel Ward arid carried.
- VALUATION OF WHARVES At a meeting of the Borough \ Council, on Monday evening a " communication was read from ■ the Secretary of the, Marine Department, Wellington, .who wrote as under': "Adverting to your letter of' the 20th ultimo, in ', which you state that your ,Goun- >, cil desires, that the Governor should, in accordance with the ■ provisions of section 7 of the Tauranga Harbor Act, 1912, fix the price to be paid by the. Harbor Board to your Council for the 1 Town ; '§nd jVictoria Wharves, I have r the honor, by direction of the Minister of Marine, to inform .; you'that the Public Works Resi-dent-Engineer at Tauranga has been - instructed to examine the structures and report as to what he considers would be a fair price for 'them-,- in order that the ; Governor may be in a position to fix the amount. It would, therefore, be advisable that you should see the engineer in regard to the % matter." , Th§ Finance Committee of the Borbugh Council recommended ,' that.the letter, from the Marine • . Department be referred to the Borough's solicitors to advise upon.;.':;;;' j|The recommendation was unanimously adopted. . . ■'.
