The Te Puke Times FRIDAY, NOV 14. BOARD OF AGRICULTURE.

The gill in connection with the setting up of a Board of Agriculture is a measure, comprisingnine clauses. The Board is io consist of not more than twelve members, who shall be appointed by the Governor to hold office for a term of three years. Four members shall be appointed on the recommendation of the societies incorporated under the Agricultural and Pastoral Societies Act, 1908, and a like number shall be appointed on the recommendation 1 of the societies in the South Island under that Act. Provision is made whereby, should these societies not make any recommendation, the Governor may make the appointments as though he were in possession of the required nominations. The president and vice-president shall be appointed by the Governor; The secretary shall be appointed by the Public Service Commissioner. The expenses of administration of the Board's affairs are to be paid out of moneys appropriated for the purpose by Parliament, whilst meetings shall be held at regular intervals. The purpose for which the Board is set up is as an advisory body to the Minister for Agriculture with respect to such matters and questions in connection with the purposes of agriculture and other rural industries, or as it chooses to submit to the Minister. In defining the duties of the Board .more clearly the Act states: (a) the aiding, improving, and developing of agriculture, including fruit-culture, horticulture, forestry, dairying, breeding of stock, and poultry, bee-keeping, and the flax industry; fb) The prevention and control of disease in stock and poultry; the control of rabbits and noxious weeds, the dipping of sheep; (c) The establishment of agricultural colleges and agricultural education generally; and (d) the aiding and facilitating of' the carriage and distribution of produce.
