COMPLAINT AGAINST MOTOR CARS

At a meeting of the' Tauranga County Council on Tuesday last, a letter, was read from Mr J. lianabey, Gate Pa, who wrote asunder ; " Have you considered it advisable, in the interests .- of horse-owners, drivers and ratepayers in general, to have Isoipe sort of oversight on drivers of motor-cars. There will .be a serious accident some of these .- days if more consideration is not shown by drivers of motorcarsto people with horses. Twice within ten days I have had my harness broken by being trapped between two banks where the roads are narrow, by of cars refusing to stop. At the speed put on by some at the Gate Pa end of the Cameron Road it is hard to keep*out*of' their way, and. as for blowing the horn when approaching a short turn or cross roads it is done. Besides, after paying rates for nearly forty years- I consider it hard to be driven off the roads because someone has a motor. Have you gentlemen any way of teaching overbearing motor, little common; sense and consideration for the lives and property of their'neighbors before some one is killed or' maimed." The Clerk read the by-law of the Council imposing on drivers of motor cars the observance of certain rules for the safety of other traffic. //; It was 'decided to inform Mr Hanabey that the Council had a by-law governing motor car traffic in force, and that proceedings could be taken against offenders. The Council also decided-to insert notices in the press, warning, drivers of motor cars to observer the by-laws. '
