A BRUTAL AFFAIR.

LITTLE GIRL ASSAULTED. Waihi, Wednesday A lbruta'l assault was committed upon an eight-year old girl shortly before 8 p.m. yesterday at the east end of the township. While returning home from an errand the child was seized by some unknown man and thrown over a fence where she was so maltreated that she is in danger of losing her life. When she cried out for assistance the child was seized by the throat by her assailant, and was rendered unconscious. Upon regaining her senses she again called for help. Her cries were heard and ' responded' to, and upon'being picked up the little girl again swooned. ' The child, who was treated' by Dr. Craig, now appear* to be out of danger, and the police are now investigating the matter.
