THE ROTORUA-AUCKLAND EXPRESS.
— ; — Mr Robt. King, President of the local Railway League is in receipt of the following letter in regard to the recent alteration in the time of' departure of the Rotorua express for Auckland District Traffic Manager's Office,
Auckland, October 30th. Dear Sir,-In reply to your letter 1 of the 24th inst. 'regarding the alteration of the running of the Rotorua-Auckland express, which will take effect from Ist proximo., inclusive, I beg to inform you that the change, which was decided upon after very careful consideration; emanated partly from a desire to improve the running, and partly because adjustment was necessary in order to make the trains fit in with other express services. Wjth reference to the'departure time (8.45 a.m.) of the train from Rotorua, I beg to invite your attention to. the fact that the express train leaves Christchurch for Dunedin atß.o a;m. ; the Dunedin-Christchurch express leaves Dunedin at 8.30 ; the Dunedin-Invrcargill express leaves Dunedin, at 8.25 a.m.; no complaint has been made rif the travelling public having been inconvenienced thereby. It is quite understood that any alteration is bound to raise objections from some, but no doubt in a
little time.the difficulties that may arise will disappear, and I trust it will ultimately be found that the alterations will be in the interests of the travelling public as a whole. —Yours faithfully, Chas. A. Piper, Traffic Superintendent. R. King, Esq. . Te Puke.
