The Te Puke Times. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21. THE FINANCIAL OUTLOOK.
In its commercial and financial column the Evening Post says: " Whatever may be the state of affairs outside the Dominior, tbeve .is no denying" the fact that in New Zealand an excellent feeling of optimism prevails. The effect of dear money has been fully discounted, and we stand to-day on the brink of a prosperous year; consequently the optimism of the people is fully justified. The dairy farmers have sold their outputs for the. season which has just opened at prices which will yield a very handsome return,'and the output will be larger than in the previous season. The frozen meat market is very promising, and new outlets for meat are becoming available. Meat is selling well now, and will continue to do so. Wool is fetching good prices, and the outlook for the immediate future is bright. When American buyers come into the market-as come they must, unless the wool industry of the United States is to be wiped out entirely-then prices will move. With' such a promising prospect before three, of the staple products of the country, we have a right to be cheerful and optimistic, but care must be taken not to allow ourselves to become obsessed with the idea that prosperity will be continuous, While it is excellent to be optimistic, it is better to be careful and reasonably cautious.
